Dansette "A compilation of youthful ramblings and, quite frankly, stylish observations. It doesn't matter who you are or to which youth sub-culture you aspire to, you are you and that's cool and all that matters. Conceived on a lazy, sunny afternoon in early summer (that's the fanzine, not me), Dansette is a mixture of all that's cool and all that's not and everything in between."

So says Helen Barrell of Dansette where the humour pervades this mix of Kula Shaker, Ocean Colour Scene, unsigned bands etc and acknowledges the pyschedelic sixties of the Small Faces, Beatles, Kinks et al. She asks "How many of San Francisco's Flower Children of the early 1960s would have thought that their chilled out life of free love, drug-taking and daisies would've influenced a whole generation's music style 30 years later?"

Dansette costs £1.50. Available from Helen Barrell, 9 Belvedere Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight, PO33 2JW.

Nights In Wight Satin - Brian Hinton. Released to coincide with an abortive twentieth anniversary of the Afton Festival this council funded publication was five years ahead of its time. A great collection of photographs, press clippings and interviews concerning the three Island festivals.

Message to Love - Brian Hinton. (Castle Communications) A companion to the Message To Love video and soundtrack album. Essentially an update of Nights in Wight Satin with less pictures than the original. The book ends with a review of the extraordinary 'Tribute to Jimi' concert performed by Robyn Hitchcock at Yarmouth Railway Station on January 26th, 1975.

Both Sides Now - Brian Hinton. The first biography of Joni Mitchell. Island author tackles the weighty subject of Joni Mitchell without a lifebelt or any assistance from the Mitchell camp. Brian Hinton is working on a biography of Van Morrison. Brave chap. He's finished it and he's still a brave chap.
