MORE FOLK THAT ROCKS AT THE MEDINA THEATRE

Eliza Carthy and her band

The rising star of English folk has been booked by Vaguely Sunny Promotions to appear at the Medina Theatre on Sunday, October 11th. Support is local band The Jones. We can thank Pete Turner for passing on Vaguely Sunny's business card during a soundcheck at Glastonbury to Eliza Carthy from which the lady's manager contacted us and the gig was arranged.

For those who have not seen her perform she is the daughter of Martin Carthy and Norma Waterstone and in his report from Glastonbury Pete Turner said:

"From the acoustic stage I make for the New stage and Eliza Carthy. I rate this lady and the music that her and her band perform highly. It is unique for the scene they are part of. Traditional English music is not what you expect to see some of these punters dancing to.

Elizas CD Red Rice is a great album, packed to the rafters with some excellent stuff. Her set consisted of quite a few numbers from it, 10,000 miles, Billy Boy and loads of other stuff."

See you there.

Tickets are £10 available from Vic King at Vaguely Sunny headquarters (01983 730930 evenings), Pete Turner (01983 298382, Mobile: 0410 766860) or Medina Theatre.

Vikki Clayton Band / Jerry Cahill

On Sunday, November 15th, Vaguely Sunny Promotions bring more top flight folk rock to the Medina Theatre in Newport. Vicki Clayton and her band which includes Jethro Tull's Clive Bunker on drums follow on from the Fairport Convention gig earlier this year.

Vicki Clayton is known not only for her own string of fine albums but her tributes to the late Sandy Denny.

Support for the gig is the Island's very own Jerry Cahill who has his first CD out called Armchair Traveller. Jerry will play a set of his own unique guitar instrumentals.

Tickets are £6 available from Vic King at Vaguely Sunny headquarters (01983 730930), Pete Turner (01983 298382, Mobile: 0410 766860) or Medina Theatre.
