Pulse Pink Floyd Eclipse Tribute 11/8/99

The dark side of Blackgang
by Pete Turner
Never look a gift horse in the mouth , thats what I say. Following our epic eclipse adventure to the deep south sea we ventured off to a place where many sailors have come to grief. Blackgang Chine.
Now more famous for it's tourist attraction which sees many a families finances come to grief. Tonight it's Pulse, the Isle of Wight's answer to Australia's answer to the Pink Floyd. In football terms the original are the Brazil of the music scene, Australia's are akin to Belgium and Pusle are like the U.S.A. coming up fast on all the established teams.
From this showing Pulse just need to pay attention to minor detail and they will be fine. The detail being the lack of women back up vocals in areas that need filling with the sort of things women can do in those areas, Oh,, Ah, Oh, ( well you know what I mean ) plus the Great Gig In The Sky.
Anyway they put this little show on to celebrate the Eclipse and as I have said they did really well. The sound and lights were fine, the staging was ok, but the location in Frontierland amongst the cowboy effects was a bit weird, Syd would have had a bad one if he had been there.
The bar was a typical Isle of Wight affair with little thought in location, lay out or staffing. So the gig itself was filled with all the usual Pulse set of Wish You Were Here, Learning To Fly, Comfortably Numb, Dark Side of the Moon, a huge chunk of The Wall. I know Vic has a thing about tribute bands and enough said, Pulse are setting a few peoples hearts racing as they have them searching back in their minds remembering how the original band performed the songs.
What price Pulse for Osborne House? What price the Original Floyd for Osborne House ? What price The Australian Floyd for Osborne House. Let me guess someone will book the latter first. I think next year given the chance the Isle of Wight Council should give Pulse the chance, after all Portsmouth City Council have done so.

Oh but what is that I here, a rockband at Osborne House. No way, that would contravene the Isle of Wight Act of 1970 ! Still one never knows, all that cash and free advertising that arrives with that sort event may just kick someone somewhere to either go the whole way or just give Pulse a chance.

SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMONDS !!!
