CHALLENGE ANIKA . . .
Onto the float into the breach
The Jones were due to play Plessey Club on Friday night, but a chance
meeting by me and Vic with Chis and Ferret in Newport High Street
revealed that they had decided to pull the plug on it and what
followed was a scenario dubbed by Vic King as "Challenge Anika "
- 6.30pm mobile phone call to Jonathon of Void only to discover that our
band had decided to stay in Reading following their gig at the
University.
- 6.35pm mobile phone call to Joel to see if the Milkmans Son were
available.
- 6.40pm Phone call from Joel to say yes, but what about a PA ?
- 6.42pm mobile phone call to Pete Burnan, but the small PA is in
Sandown.
- 6.44pm mobile phone call to Mark Spencer, but he's not in.
- 7.00pm at home I phone Richard Otley who has a PA amp but no speakers.
Half way there.
- 7.05pm phone Mark Spencer not in leave message with his dad
- 7.10pm Mark phones he's got some speakers
- 7.15pm Get amps from Joes drummer
- 7.25pm Plessey club, I have to explain to Martin Ivory that the Jones
will not be playing but he's got the Milkmans Son instead.
- 7.35pm Rest of band arrive and then the PA and speakers.
Well thats how to do it ain't it.
The lads did well considering and their mates and girls enjoyed it.
Joes bass played through a fuzz/distort pedal gives the band a rough
edge and Dominic's drumming has improved. There was a grunge like feel
to the set and they have added a guitarist to take them to places we
can't get to.
Set list : Reasons to Live, Song 2, Tired of Sex, Mental, Mary Wanna, Not Ready Yet, Sweaty Song, Guest List, Foxy Lady, Voodo Chile, The End.
