The band released their Valid EP last year featuring four tunes they wrote themselves. The opening track, Funky Song, is not to my liking unfortunately, with rather weak music and vocals culminating in a rather interesting choppy instrumental.
This track, however, featured on a short film, The Gentle Art of Perception, providing the soundtrack to footage filmed in New York.
This personal blip on Valid is soon forgotten when A Maze kicks in. The acoustic start lends to a style in the vein of Buffalo Tom, with Lucy Haywood's vocals coming through much stronger. It's a well crafted chugger of a hip swaying tune.
Circa has a twanging bass start concluding in a full on wigout wah wah solo wth some jangly harmonics and a sublime sexy Kylie sounding Lucy in between.
Final track Despise is a bit rockier and punkier and guaranteed to get the punters on their feet.
I can't wait to see Lucy and the boys strutting their funky stuff to these tunes and the selection of covers from such artists as Radiohead, Cranberries, Sleeper, Alanis Morrisette, Sheryl Crow and the Beatles.
The legendary Les Payne Band with Pete West are headlining the evening which kicks off at 8pm at the very reasonable price of £3.50.
Les and the guys will definitely have a run for their money with such quality support as Void.
