When did you first start to learn the violin?
When I was nine, I had classical training and was in the school orchestra at Medina High. Then I stopped playing for a while.
How did the link with the Grimshaws first come about?
Through Donal. When I first saw Last Orders in 1991 I decided tht I was going to take up the violin again. I started joining in with Last Orders. I learnt a lot from Donal. From Donal I linked up with JC. JC is encouraging and so friendly. He had all his gypsy records and East European polkas.
What are your influences?
Irish music particularly. I've had a couple of holidays in Ireland on the West Coast. Clare, Galway and Connemara.
Any particular favourite artists?
I like a wide range, The Chieftains and Christy Moore. My little boy Christy is named after Christy Moore.
Do you get the opportunity to get involved in music at the school where you teach?
It's a Primary School. I do the hymn practice. I do a guitar and violin club. I know enough guitar to teach. I take in music for them to listen to.
